Amazon Launches More Affordable Kindle Colorsoft and New Kids Edition
July 24, 2025
Amazon is making its color-screen Kindle lineup more accessible with the introduction of a lower-cost version of its Kindle Colorsoft device. The new model, priced at $249.99, offers 16GB of storage—half that of the original 32GB version—at a $30 discount. Alongside this more affordable option, Amazon has also launched a dedicated Kids Edition designed to support young readers.
The original Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition, released last year, was Amazon’s answer to a more immersive reading experience, especially for users who enjoy comics, graphic novels, or color highlighting in e-books. It featured a 7-inch glare-free color display, adjustable warm lighting, fast page turns, and up to eight weeks of battery life. It also supported a dark mode-like experience by inverting the page colors.
The newly released 16GB version maintains most of those key features, including the high-contrast display and long battery life. It comes bundled with three months of Kindle Unlimited, granting access to over 4 million books. However, the more budget-friendly model drops some of the premium Signature Edition perks—specifically auto-adjusting front lighting, wireless charging, and the extra storage.
Amazon is also expanding its lineup with the Kindle Colorsoft Kids Edition, priced at $269.99. This version is tailored for young readers and ships with an illustrated protective cover, a two-year worry-free guarantee, and one year of Amazon Kids+, which provides access to a wide range of kid-friendly books, games, videos, and educational apps.
Designed to support literacy development, the Kids Edition includes tools like a vocabulary builder, Word Wise (which offers in-line word explanations), the OpenDyslexic font, and Bluetooth support for listening to audiobooks.
With these additions, Amazon is aiming to broaden the appeal of its Kindle lineup, offering color e-readers at a more accessible price point while also catering to families and younger readers.
