Hugging Face Launches Programmable Reachy Mini Bots — Open Source, Raspberry Pi-Powered, and Cute
Jul 11, 2025
Hugging Face unveiled its new Reachy Mini robots this week. These AI bots are:
Open source
Powered by Raspberry Pi
Designed with playful features like cartoonish antennae and big googly eyes
Out of the box, they don’t do much — and that’s intentional. The bots are meant to be programmable and customizable by users, inviting exploration and creativity.
On TechCrunch’s Equity podcast, hosts Kirsten Korosec, Max Zeff, and Anthony Ha discussed Reachy Mini’s surprising success, noting it pulled in $500,000 in sales within the first 24 hours.
Kirsten and Max compared Reachy Mini to the “Seinfeld of AI hardware”: it might not do anything spectacular yet, but it’s undeniably captivating.
The episode also covered other major stories of the week:
Grok’s eventful week and Linda Yaccarino’s sudden exit from X
Rivian’s micromobility spinoff, Also, raising an additional $200 million for e-bikes before launching a product
LangChain nearing a new funding round, expected to push its valuation to $1 billion, fueled by a pivot toward monetizing developer tools
Equity podcast returns next week with more news.
