Apple Reportedly Developing Its Own AI-Powered 'Answer Engine'
August 3, 2025
Apple is assembling a dedicated team to build a proprietary AI-driven "answer engine," according to recent reports. The initiative appears aimed at enhancing Apple's ability to deliver direct, web-informed responses to user questions — a capability that could eventually rival tools like ChatGPT.
The new internal group, reportedly named Answers, Knowledge, and Information, is tasked with creating a system that can intelligently retrieve and synthesize information from across the internet. This answer engine may take the form of a standalone application or be deeply integrated into existing Apple services like Siri, Safari, and other native tools.
Apple is actively hiring for the project, with job postings highlighting the need for expertise in search algorithms and engine development — signaling the company’s growing ambition in the search and generative AI space.
While Apple has already partnered with OpenAI to bring ChatGPT into Siri, a more personalized, AI-enhanced version of the voice assistant has faced repeated delays. The new engine could serve as both a complement and eventual replacement to third-party AI integrations, allowing Apple to own more of the user experience.
This move also comes amid broader shifts in the search ecosystem. Apple’s long-standing agreement to use Google Search as the default on its devices could face new scrutiny following Google’s recent antitrust loss, potentially opening the door for Apple to develop or expand its own search infrastructure.
As AI continues to reshape how users find and interact with information, Apple appears to be positioning itself to compete more directly in this fast-evolving landscape — not just by embedding third-party models, but by building its own.
