Tim Cook Rallies Apple Staff: “We Must Win in AI”
August 2, 2025
Apple CEO Tim Cook is making it clear: artificial intelligence isn’t just another feature — it’s a strategic priority. In a recent all-hands meeting with employees, Cook reportedly emphasized that Apple must win in the AI race, framing it as a defining moment for the company’s future.
The internal meeting followed Apple’s latest earnings call, where Cook assured investors that the company would “significantly” boost its AI investments. But behind closed doors, his tone was more urgent and motivational. “Apple must do this. Apple will do this. This is sort of ours to grab,” he told employees, according to reports.
Apple has launched several AI-powered features in recent months under its “Apple Intelligence” branding, but some of the most anticipated upgrades — including major improvements to Siri — have been slower to arrive. Cook appeared to acknowledge this lag during the meeting, conceding that Apple has not always been first to market in emerging tech categories.
“We’ve rarely been first,” he said. “There was a PC before the Mac; there was a smartphone before the iPhone; there were many tablets before the iPad; there was an MP3 player before iPod.” His point: being first hasn’t mattered as much as being best — or redefining what “best” looks like.
Cook’s comments suggest that Apple sees a similar opportunity with AI: to transform the category, not just compete in it. Whether the company can pull that off in an increasingly crowded field remains to be seen, but internally, the message is clear — the next big battle is here, and Apple plans to lead it.
